Can it be that Taylor Patterson can guarantee great weather on its annual charity golf day event, held on Friday 11th September? Following the inaugural day last year, also blessed with sunshine, we were confronted once more with a beautiful day.
With all 9 teams kindly supporting our nominated charity, The Foxton Centre, the scene was set for some great competition.
The Foxton Centre aims to work with the most marginalised communities in Preston to provide them with opportunities to flourish. The centre has helped support rough sleepers, people with alcohol abuse issues and others in the community who need support, for over 40 years. They are currently running 12 different projects including:
As the four-ball teams arrived at the immaculate Shaw Hill Hotel Golf & Country Club, the tension was palpable as the coveted Shield was on show at registration. With last year’s winners, RBS, unable to attend, the competition title was available for a new team of winners.
With the Cofunds team being first off the tee at 10.00 am prompt and each subsequent team going off at regular intervals, the event got underway with some cracking tee shots, played under the pressure of the watching gallery. The prize for most impressive tee shot off the 1st was won by Peter Conroy, Trevor Dawson Chartered Surveyors, as his sweetly stuck drive landed perfectly on the green.
The sun continued to shine unabated during the day and teams were kept well fed and watered on the course by the steward team from Taylor Patterson.
As the teams began to complete their rounds, the scores were collected, calculated and analysed by Taylor Patterson’s very own adjudicator, Stuart Mather. With the sun shining lower in the sky, the final teams completed with perfect timing as dinner was served.
After a hearty hot-pot dinner, the prizes were awarded and congratulations go to the event winners, Armstrong Watson and the event runners up, Birchall Blackburn. The longest drive award went to Andrew Troughton, a member of the team entered by Standard Life & Neptune Investment.
James Thompson from Taylor Patterson commented “I would like to thank the golfers and companies that attended and kindly donated monies as it provides much needed funds to help our local charity keep doing a great job for those in need. The event generated a fantastic sum of over £1,000. These monies will be added to our current funds meaning we have raised over £2,075 so far in addition to providing the centre with food parcels donated by the team at Taylor Patterson.”
In addition to the teams already mentioned, our thanks also go to Alliance Trust, Pierce Chartered Accountants, Barclays, Forbes solicitors, Eckersley Chartered Surveyors and Royal London for their continued support and generosity.
Our next main event of the year is our Annual Quiz on the 12th November at Preston Masonic Hall, now in its ninth year. Further details can be found on the Charity Quiz link or contact Laura Forrest from the Charity Committee on firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that this is an extremely popular evening hosted by our resident quiz master Ted Hulme, so reserve your place at the earliest opportunity!
