Under the new pension transfer rules, effective 8th June 2015, what are the implications of transferring a SSAS to a SIPP or vesting into flexible benefits?

There are some final salary SSAS arrangements which would come under the definition of safeguarded benefits.

Money purchase SSAS arrangements without safeguarded benefits are written under occupational scheme rules and therefore do fall within the pension transfer definition, as they always have. To transfer any occupational arrangement without safeguarded benefits an advising firm would need the FCA permission but the transaction would not need to be undertaken or checked by a pension transfer specialist.
